What are X-rays?
X-rays are electro-magnetic waves, similar to Gamma rays that are produced by X-ray tubes.
What are its applications?
Different parts of the body absorb varying proportions of X-rays passing through them, thus producing a latent image on the exposed radiographic film. When processed, this latent image forms a final image on the film. The doctor then evaluates the films for any abnormalities.Till the 1990's, Conventional radiography was the mainstay of Diagnostic Radiology. Even now Radiography is the first diagnostic test ordered in majority of the cases. The whole of the skeleton, the lungs, Kidney stones, cranium etc. can be satisfactorily evaluates with radiography. Certain procedures such as IVP and Barium studies are performed using X-rays.
Are X-rays harmful?
Theoretically, X-rays are capable of causing cell injury and mutations, though the incidence is negligible. Thus, radiographs are performed only when the benefits outweigh the risks. In women who are pregnant, X-rays are avoided as far as possible. At our centre, all the procedures are performed only under the supervision of trained Radiologists.

Which Contrast-dyes are used and when?
Certain special procedures entail usage of contrast media, which improve the visualization of the organ under study. These contrasts/dyes, depending on the procedure, are taken per-orally, via injection or per rectally. For Ex. Gastrointestinal studies involve drinking solutions of barium, I.V.P. involves injecting a dye to visualize the kidneys. Our Doctors will explain you in detail before any procedures are performed.
Do I need to prepare for the Test?
Certain studies require prior preparation. Ex. Lumbar spine X-ray requires overnight fasting and clear motion to get good images. So kindly enquire while taking appointment. You will be required to remove all jewelry and change into a gown provided at our centre before undergoing any radiographic tests as all metals and certain types of clothing can produce artifacts on the film. Carry previous X-ray images and reports if you have undertaken the same test earlier. Carry doctor's prescription with you while coming for the test.
How long will the test take?
Usually, the tests take between 5-10 minutes of time depending on the tests. Certain special procedures may take between 30 minutes to a few hours.
When will the reports be ready?
At Proscan Diagnostics, we strive to achieve a short turn around time and provide you with the sonography reports immediately after the test, when possible.
Our aim is to provide you with the reports on the same day. In certain complicated cases, the doctor may take longer and you will be informed accordingly.
